Neymar transfer: Barça and Sandro Rosell indicted for tax evasion; hearing set for 13/06/2014

FC Barcelona (Liga BBVA) and its former president Sandro Rosell were formally indicted for tax evasion in the case of the transfer of Neymar by the prosecutor of the Audiencia Nacional (Spanish high court) on 03/06/2014.

A Department of Finance report estimates that the amount of tax fraud in the transfer of the Brazilian striker totalled €9.1m (€2.4m for 2011 and €6.7m for 2013). Sandro Rosell and the Catalan club must appoint a legal representative to appear on 13/06/2014.

The Spanish LFP (Professional Football League) had exonerated the club of any irregularities on 28/04/2014. FC Barcelona had paid a supplementary tax return of €13.5m "due to a possible divergence in interpretations regarding the exact amount of tax obligation arising from the transfer of Neymar and in order to defend the club's reputation and good name," on 24/02/2014.
