CIES: FC Barcelona have the most expensive players, valued at €593m as of 01/06/2014

FC Barcelona (Liga) are the team with the world's most expensive players, with an estimated value of €593m as of 01/06/2014, according to a study by the International Centre for Sports Studies (CIES) Football Observatory, published on 04/06/2014.

FC Barcelona were ahead of Real Madrid (Liga), in second place with a market value of €488m, and Bayern Munich (Bundesliga), at €400m, according to CIES. The first French club in the ranking is Paris SG, in 9th place with a market value for its players estimated at €278m.

Premier League (England) is the championship with the most expensive players, at an estimated €3.113bn. Ligue 1 (France) ranked fifth, according to CIES, at €1.077bn.

CIES' method for calculating players' market values

To assess the value of each player, the Football Observatory looks at data such as club and player performance, number of goals, level of the national team, championship level, position, age, career advancement and contract (salary received, duration, extensions, etc.).
