UK: BT extends Gallagher Premiership Rugby TV rights until 2023-24

The British telecommunications group BT has extended its UK TV rights to the Gallagher Premiership Rugby for the next three seasons (2021-2024) from Premiership Rugby, according to the body on 18/12/2020.

BT will broadcast up to 80 live matches (69 Gallagher Premiership Rugby matches and 11 Premiership Rugby Cup matches) each season on its BT Sport pay-TV channels. The 2020-21 Gallagher Premiership Rugby season began on 20/11/2020.

The value of the new agreement is £110m (€121m) for the additional three years of the contract, or £36.6m (€40m) per year according to the British media. BT Sport had previously extended its agreement to broadcast the English rugby championship for six years (£240m or £40m per year) until 2020-21, on 16/03/2015.

The pay-TV group BT Sport extended its rights to broadcast the European Rugby Cup in the UK and Ireland for the 2018-2022 cycle on 04/07/2017. The deal is reportedly worth more than €50m according to British media.
