FIFA has lodged a criminal complaint with the Canton of Zurich Prosecutor (SUI) after an investigation uncovered evidence of alleged criminal mismanagement targeting the former FIFA leadership -- and notably former President Joseph Blatter -- and companies as part of the FIFA Museum of World Football project installed in a building in downtown Zurich, announced the international confederation on 22/12/2020.

"The investigation carried out by external experts shows that the total cost of the project amounts to 500 million Swiss francs (or €459m on 28/02/2016, date of the inauguration) and that the former FIFA leadership allocated 140 million Swiss francs (€128.5m) to the renovation and modernization of a building that the body does not own, while entering into a higher long-term rental contract at market value, which will cost FIFA 360 million Swiss francs (€330.5m) by the end of the contract in 2045," specified the world body.

"This half a billion Swiss francs could and should have been devoted to the development of world football," added FIFA.
