Discovery: distribution agreement with Vodafone for Discovery+ platform in 12 European countries

The American audiovisual group Discovery has signed a distribution agreement for its OTT platform Discovery+, with the telecommunications operator Vodafone, in 12 European countries - United Kingdom (for mobile customers only), Germany, Italy, Spain, Romania, Portugal, Greece, Czech Republic, Turkey (for mobile customers only), Hungary, Ireland and Iceland - on 04/01/2021.

Discovery+ will be available "across more than 25 key markets in 2021, including the Nordics, Italy, the Netherlands and Spain," said Discovery. The platform was already available at the end of 2020 in the United Kingdom and Ireland (at a price of £4.99 per month), where a distribution agreement has been signed with the pay-TV operator Sky. The launch date in France is not yet known and it is not known whether it will take place this year.

Eurosport Player, the OTT platform of Discovery's pay-TV subsidiary Eurosport, will gradually disappear in the coming months in the various European countries in favour of discovery+, which will notably broadcast in Europe (excluding Russia) the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympic Games…
