Spain: Mediapro's appeal rejected for the broadcast of FC Barcelona women's matches

The Provincial Court of Barcelona (Catalonia, ESP) has confirmed, on appeal, the decision handed down by the Court of First Instance which ruled in favour of FC Barcelona following a complaint lodged by the Spanish audiovisual group Mediapro regarding the broadcasting by the Catalan club of the match between its women's team (FC Barcelona Femení) and that of Club Atlético de Madrid (Club Atlético de Madrid Femenino) during the 2019-20 Primera Iberdrola season, according to several Spanish media on 05/01/2021.

FC Barcelona had decided to broadcast all of its women's league matches at the Johan-Cruyff Stadium on its own channels during the 2019-20 season, while Mediapro acquired the rights to broadcast the Primera Iberdrola in Spain from the Association of Spanish Women's Football Clubs (ACFF) over the 2019-2022 period for €9m (€3m per season). FC Barcelona had refused to sign the collective agreement with Mediapro and believed that it could broadcast its women's team's home matches itself, based on "stadium rights".
