Ligue 1 TV rights (2020-2024): "New call for tenders in the interest of all" (Maxime Saada, Canal+)

"We finally came to the conclusion, on the Canal+ side, that it was in the interest of all stakeholders to go through a call for tenders (for the 2020-2024 Ligue 1 TV rights following the withdrawal of Mediapro). We therefore sent a letter to the LFP to inform it of the return of Lot 3 that beIN Sports sub-licensed to us (Saturday evening match at 21:00 + Sunday match at 17:00," said Maxime Saada, chairman of the board of directors at Canal+, to the French daily newspaper Le Figaro on 12/01/2021.

"The LFP will turn to the audiovisual rights market to find a favourable outcome that will allow the complete broadcasting of the Ligue 1 Uber Eats and Ligue 2 BKT to continue over the 2020-2024 cycle," explained the League on 22/12/2020, after the validation of the conciliation protocol between the LFP and Mediapro Sport France by the Nanterre (Greater Paris, FRA) Commercial Court.

This agreement provides for the LFP to recover the broadcasting rights to 80% of the matches of Ligue 1 Uber Eats and Ligue 2 BKT acquired by Mediapro on 28/05/2018. Mediapro will therefore pay a total of €243.6m…
