FIFA presented FIFA Sound, its "new entertainment strategy designed to create innovative and meaningful connections between football fans, music enthusiasts, players, artists, and the game and songs they all love," the international body announced on 13/01/2021. FIFA is supported by Universal Music Group (UMG, music label, Vivendi group) in the development of FIFA Sound.

This project will revolve around the Play On podcast, hosted by British artist Liam Payne (former member of the music group One Direction) and sports journalist Jaydee Dyer. The podcast, a new episode of which will be released every Wednesday for eight weeks, "will feature top football players alongside musicians".

The first episode, released on 13/01/2021, stars Croatian footballer Ivan Rakitic and the Colombian music group Morat. "Playlists with the songs chosen by each player will also be published on Spotify," said FIFA.

Play On is "the first of many initiatives that FIFA is preparing to launch" as part of its collaboration with Universal Music Group For Brands (a division of UMG) from 2021.
