FIFA: Age and term limits on Sao Paulo congress' agenda for 11/06/2014

Age and term limits are item 12.1 on the agenda of the annual congress of FIFA (Federation Internationale de Football Association) in Sao Paulo (BRA) on 11/06/2014.

Both subjects had been postponed for a year when brought for consideration at the 2013 congress in Mauritius on 31/05/2013. "Personally, I am against an age limit. I do not think this is a significant factor. Not everyone is in the same state at 60, 70 or 80. I could even see this as a form of discrimination. To me, passion is more important than anything else," said Joseph Blatter, FIFA president since 1998, on 27/05/2013.

"I am not opposed to limiting the number of mandates," the Swiss leader added. "Many democracies already have this rule. But in that case, it would have to apply to everyone."

"In terms of human rights, an age limit is discrimination," Blatter repeated on 06/02/2014.

Born on 10/03/1936, Blatter also advocates for the abolition of age limits for the IOC (International Olympic Committee) of which he has been a member since 1999. The IOC asks its members to resign at 80 for those who were nominated…
