Serie A TV rights: private negotiations phase (offers from Sky Italia, DAZN, Mediapro, Discovery)

The Lega Serie A will start private negotiations for the allocation of its 2021-2024 domestic broadcast rights, after having received offers from Sky Italia, DAZN, Mediapro and Discovery, said Luigi De Siervo, CEO of the Italian League, to the Italian media on 29/01/2021. Amazon, expected to in this call for tenders, has therefore not made any offers (see below).

"I think there is room to improve the offerings, but they weren't as bad as some might expect given the situation with the coronavirus pandemic. DAZN is a well-known brand and has become a dominant platform in other territories. They aim to take on the larger, central broadcasting role that Sky has held for many years. Sky also has the opportunity and resources to compete and reach a 'big deal' in the second phase of negotiations," said Luigi De Siervo.

The Lega Serie A had launched its call for tenders on 04/01/2021 and the offers had to be submitted by 26/01/2021 at the latest. It had set a reserve price of €1.15bn per season. Sky Italia and DAZN currently hold the domestic rights (2018-2021 cycle) for an amount of €973m…
