TV rights: "Our Champions League approach is different to the Premier League one" (A. Green, Amazon)

"We have obtained Champions League rights in Germany and Italy, but for each of these territories this still represents sixteen matches over the course of the season from 2021-22. This is top football, the kind of matches that we can market and cover with our revolutionary way of doing things, new TV shows and great documentaries. Our approach to the Champions League is different from the one we had with the Premier League," said Alex Green, European managing director, sports and channels at the American e-commerce group Amazon, to the French daily L'Equipe on 30/01/2021.

"The Premier League had created two similar lots (of 20 matches each) as events to attract new entrants. It was really an experience for them, but they knew it could be attractive to groups like us. The packaging helped us to launch one of these lots, it's true... In December, there's a lot of traffic on our e-commerce site, we knew we could market it and make it a big event. What's more, in two years, we managed to create a new tradition. During the Christmas period, it has entered people's minds that it's time…
