Brazil 2014: Winner to get €25.8m; those eliminated in first round to get €5.9m

The total winnings distributed by FIFA (Fédération Internationale de Football Association) will be $358m (€264.5m), to be shared by the 32 teams participating in the 20th World Cup (Brazil, 12/06 to 13/07/2014), which begins with the Brazil-Croatia match in Sao Paulo.

The winner will get $35m (€25.8m), and runner-up, $25m (€18.4m).

Each of the 32 selections is assured of at least $9.5m (€7m): $1.5m (€1.1m) to repay its preparation costs and the $8m (€5.9m) given to each of the 16 teams eliminated in the group stage.

The 32 teams are divided into eight groups of four. Each plays against the other three in its group. The first two in each group qualify for the round of 16, while the last two are eliminated.

FIFA's payments to the 32 selections involved in the 2014 World Cup: 

  • Winner: $35m (€25.8m)
  • Runner-up: $25m (€18.4m)
  • Third place: $22m (€16.2m)
  • Fourth place: $20m (€14.7m)
  • Eliminated in the quarter-finals (four teams): $14m (€10.3m)
  • Eliminated in the round of 16 (eight teams): $9m (€6.6m)
  • Eliminated in the group stage (16 teams): $8m (€5.9m)
