"Are we going to sink with €1bn in losses because of Covid, while paying €1bn in taxes to the State?," Asks Bernard Caïazzo, president of the Première Ligue (union of primarily Ligue 1 club presidents) and, as such, a member of the LFP board of directors, on 05/02/2021.

"Even with the failure of Mediapro, but without Covid-19, French professional football would not encounter serious survival problems. On the other hand, with Covid-19, and even if Mediapro had honored its commitments, we would be at €800m in losses," underlined the one who is also chairman of the board of AS Saint-Étienne (Ligue 1 Uber Eats).

"Rare, in Ligue 1, will be the clubs which will lose less than €20m at the end of the season. Without a drop in wages, we are heading for big bankruptcies in France, as in Europe. It is Covid-19 which forces us to do so, not the failure of Mediapro," added Bernard Caïazzo who answered questions from News Tank Football.
