CAF: A. Ahmad eligible for president, decision "inappropriate" according to the executive committee

The candidate Ahmad Ahmad (MAD) has been declared eligible for the post of CAF president according to the Confederation of African Football's Governance Committee, on 05/02/2021, based on the Court of Arbitration for Sport's (CAS) decision on 29/01/2021 to provisionally suspend "the sanctions taken by the Adjudicatory Chamber of the FIFA Ethics Committee" against him due to the "risk of irreparable harm" to him "if the sanctions are maintained during the period leading up to the CAF elections."

The CAF executive committee has "taken note of the CAS decision" but finds it "inappropriate, and recalls that the eligibility check, for candidates for the position of CAF president, is exclusively the responsibility of the FIFA review Committee," said the executive committee who met in Yaounde (CAM) on 06/02/2021 (on the sidelines of the final of the African Nations Championship, CHAN 2021, won by Morocco on 07/02/2021).
