FIFA ethics committee suspends Franz Beckenbauer for 90 days from any activity in footbal

Franz Beckenbauer (Germany), special advisor to the FIFA (Fédération Internationale de Football Association) football committee, has been suspended, effective immediately, from any football-related activity for 90 days, stated Alan Sullivan, the vice-president of the FIFA ethics committee's adjudicatory chamber, on 13/06/2014.

The suspension was requested by Michael Garcia (USA), the president of the ethics committee's investigatory chamber, which is in charge of the investigation into the awarding procedure of the 2018 and 2022 World Cups in Russia and Qatar. Beckenbauer, who was on the FIFA executive committee from 2007 to 2011, participated in the elections for the World Cups in 2018 and 2022 in Zurich (SUI) on 02/12/2010.

"The apparent breach relates to Mr Beckenbauer’s failure to cooperate with an Ethics Committee investigation despite repeated requests for his assistance, including requests that he provide information during an in-person interview or in response to written questions provided in both English and German," said FIFA in a statement.
