Sky Bet League One: Kyril Louis-Dreyfus becomes majority shareholder and chairman of Sunderland AFC

Kyril Louis-Dreyfus, a French businessman born on 18/12/1997, son of Robert and Margarita Louis-Dreyfus, has become the majority shareholder of Sunderland AFC (Sky Bet League One) with the approval of the English Football League (EFL), announced the English club on 18/02/2021. Kyril Louis-Dreyfus also becomes chairman of the club and replaces Sterwart Donald who retains a minority shareholding.

Stewart Donald became the majority shareholder in 2018, when the club was put up for sale by British businessman Ellis Short. "When we entered into negotiations with Ellis Short three years ago, Sunderland was nearly £200m (€222m on 31/12/2018) in debt, was losing £35m (€38.8m) per annum, and had all but been relegated to League One," said the club's former chairman. At the end of the 2016-17 season, Sunderland AFC were relegated to the Sky Bet Championship, 10 years after being promoted to the Premier League for the 2007-08 season.
