Serie A: Film producer Massimo Ferrero buys Sampdoria Genoa

Edoardo Garrone, the owner and president of Sampdoria Genoa (Serie A), announced the sale of the club to Massimo Ferrero, a film producer and owner of 60 cinemas in Rome, on 12/06/2014. Details of the transaction were not disclosed.

"When I took over Sampdoria, I had two objectives," said Garrone, who was named vice-president in 2011. Secure the business and then to pass it along. Today, Sampdoria is solid, serious and transparent. In the last seven years, buyers have come forward, but none were credible. (...) But, Massimo Ferrero has shown me his professionalism and pragmatism, and convinced me that he would do things properly." Garrone is also president of the Italian energy producer group ERG.

"Samp will be like Ben Hur. I want football-as-spectacle and I will do everything to win as much as possible," said Ferrero, who is now the second movie producer to own a club in Italy, after Aurelio de Laurentiis with Naples (Serie A).
