esports/LEC: FC Schalke 04 could sell its slot estimated at €20m (bought for €8m in 2018)

"We are currently in the process of evaluating different options that the club can take depending on the circumstances it'll find itself in by the end of this Bundesliga season. This includes, but is not limited to, selling the LEC slot to an interested buyer. However, no decision has been made as of right now, and the club getting relegated won't necessarily force us to sell the slot," announced FC Schalke 04 on 24/02/2021.

The German club had chosen to commit its team FC Schalke Esports to the LEC in 2018, the major European competition on the League of Legends video game (published by Riot Games), by paying an entry fee of €8m. This place could now be worth €20m according to specialised media. "I expect a decision to be made around the end of May or June 2021," said Tim Reichert, head of the club's esports division.
