LaLiga/Covid-19: a loss of €2.013bn in revenue for Spanish clubs in 2019-20 and 2020-21

The clubs of LaLiga Santander and LaLiga SmartBank will have suffered a cumulative loss of €2.013bn in revenue for the 2019-20 and 2020-21 seasons due to the health measures linked to the Covid-19 pandemic, according to a report by the international network of audit and consultancy firms PriceWaterhouseCoopers (PwC), presented by LaLiga on 02/03/2021 (document available to download).

"Covid has had a considerable impact on incomes in the professional football industry, but LaLiga has absorbed the impact better than other European leagues and industries. PWC has carried out a study using LaLiga's economic information from the last five seasons, to estimate potential incomes were it not for Covid. Analysing the trend of those five seasons, they estimate that the aggregated incomes of LaLiga clubs would have increased by 8.2% and 2.0% in the 2019-20 and 2020-21 seasons respectively," explained the Spanish league.
