FC Barcelona: Joan Laporta, president from 2003-2010, elected for a new term with 54.3% of the votes

Joan Laporta has been elected president of FC Barcelona (LaLiga Santander) after receiving 30,184 votes, or 54.28% of the votes cast, announced the club on 07/03/2021. Laporta succeeds Josep Maria Bartomeu, who resigned (along with his board of directors) under pressure from a motion of censure on 27/10/2020.

The lawyer, who had already served as president of the Catalan club from June 2003 to June 2010 (re-elected in 2006), was well ahead of his two opponents. Víctor Font received 16,679 votes (29.99%) and Antoni Freixa 4,769 (8.58%).

Moments after his victory, the new president spoke of his aims for the club, which is heavily in debt and has been severely impacted by the Covid-19 crisis: "For Barça to be economically sustainable again and for Barça to be happy again. We have many challenges ahead of us and we will surely achieve them."
