CAF: Patrice Motsepe (sole candidate) elected president during General Assembly in Morocco

Patrice Motsepe (South Africa), the sole candidate, was elected by acclamation as president of CAF at the 43^rd General Assembly held in Rabat (Morocco) on 12/03/2021.

His three rivals, Augustin Senghor (Senegal), Jacques Anouma (Ivory Coast) and Ahmed Yahya (Mauritania) had withdrawn their candidacy following the "Rabat Protocol" discussed during the weekend of 27 and 28/02/2021 and ratified in Nouakchott (Mauritania) on 06/03/2021.

Under this agreement, Augustin Senghor (Senegal) is to become first vice-president of CAF and Ahmed Yahya (Mauritania) second vice-president. Jacques Anouma (Ivory Coast) is expected to take up an advisory position.

"It is truly an incredible privilege and I want to express my gratitude. I thank 'my brother' Gianni (Infantino, FIFA president, present in Rabat) for his encouragement to work together to meet the challenges of African football," said Patrice Motsepe, owner and chairman of Mamelodi Sundowns FC (RSA) after his election.
