Africa: "The face of African football will never be the same again" (Patrice Motsepe, CAF)

"The face of African football will never be the same again and I'm very excited. There is a great deal of urgency of getting things done. There is a going to be a lot of work and a lot of running. We have to make sure that African football is not just competitive but globally successful," declared Patrice Motsepe (South Africa), elected president (by acclamation) of CAF during the elective general assembly held in Rabat (Morocco) on 12/03/2021.

"Africa spends millions of dollars every year paying for TV rights of leagues outside Africa. There is a need to build our own products and we will succeed," said the successor to Ahmad Ahmad.

Patrice Motsepe, sole candidate, was elected president of CAF by acclamation. His three rivals, Augustin Senghor (Senegal), Jacques Anouma (Ivory Coast) and Ahmed Yahya (Mauritania) had withdrawn their bids following the "Rabat protocol" discussed over the weekend of 27 and 28/02/2021 and ratified in Nouakchott (Mauritania) on 06/03/2021.
