Piracy: $28bn potentially recoverable by the sports industry (Synamedia/Ampere Analysis)

"With targeted interventions to disrupt pirate streams, and incentives for fans to go legit, an additional $28bn (€23.47bn) in annual revenue could be gained" for the sports industry, according to "Pricing piracy: the value of action" a report (available to download) by the British companies Synamedia (video service provider) and Ampere Analysis (research firm) published on 15/03/2021.

"This approach focuses on the 74% of sports fans who are willing to switch from illegal streams to legitimate. And it accepts that a hardcore 26% cohort of illicit viewers will never pay," states the report.
