France: National Assembly bill for sport, including anti-piracy, adopted at first reading

31 votes in favor, 2 against: the bill n° 3,808 "aiming to democratize sport in France" was adopted at first reading by the French National Assembly on 19/03/2021 following an examination spread over three days (from 17 to 19/03/2021).

This text consists of three parts:
• The development of the practice for the greatest number of people.
• The renewal of the governance framework of the sport federations.
• The review of the sport economic model.

The bill contains measures on the governance of sports federations (parity, limitation to three terms for the president, extended transparency obligations). It also enshrines in law the already existing platform intended to fight against rigged betting (match fixing).

"My amendment aiming to authorize the constitution of a commercial company by the professional leagues, for the marketing and the management of the rights of audiovisual exploitation has been adopted," said Cédric Roussel, MP from the Alpes-Maritimes region and co-sponsor of the bill.
