England: Doncaster (third division) bought by the singer of the British band One Direction

Doncaster Rovers FC (relegated to League One, the English third division, after the 2013-14 season) were bought by Louis Tomlinson (22 years old), the lead singer of the British band One Direction, and John Ryan, a businessman and the former president of club, on 18/06/2014. The legal and financial details of the transaction were not disclosed.

A crowdfunding campaign has been set up to raise £2m (about €2.5m) to help the Yorkshire club get promoted to Championship (2^nd division) and Premier League (the club, founded in 1879, has never reached the highest level). Three days after its launch, the project has already reached £514,000 (about €645,000).

"For me, this is all about the football, the community and restoring the excitement and desire to make Doncaster Rovers the most exciting club to play for in Yorkshire," Tomlinson said.
