Premier League: Manchester City launch a Fan Token in partnership with Socios.com (cryptocurrency)

Socios.com, a cryptocurrency blockchain platform owned by the Maltese companies ChiliZ and Mediarex Sports & Entertainment, has become a partner of Manchester City FC (Premier League) from 2020-21, announced the club on 19/03/2021.

Socios.com has been granted the status of global partner, the first level in the sponsorship hierarchy of the English club. As part of the agreement, the Malta-based company will generate Manchester City's first "$CITY Fan Token".

"Socios.com is a fan engagement and rewards mobile app built on the Chiliz blockchain. Manchester City fans across the world will be able to use $CITY Fan Tokens to access VIP rewards, club promotions, games, AR-enabled features and voting rights in certain binding and non-binding club polls on Socios.com," said the club.

Socios.com is now partnered with eight major clubs in the European Top 5. The Maltese startup has already deployed several activations with these clubs by mixing cryptocurrency, digital fan interactions and the physical materialisation of these operations (see below).
