FIFA financial report 2020: "FIFA able to respond flexibly to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic"

"The balance sheet as at 31/12/2020 reflects FIFA's healthy and sustainable financial position. Thanks to its high level of short-duration financial assets, FIFA was able to respond flexibly to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, setting up the FIFA Covid-19 Relief Plan ($1.5bn/€1.22bn) and reaffirming its commitment to investing $1bn (€814m) in women's football," said the international federation in its 2020 financial report (document available to download) approved by the FIFA Council on 19/03/2021.

The year 2020, the second of the 2019-2022 quadrennial cycle which ends in the year of the World Cup (Qatar 2022), was clearly marked by the Covid-19 epidemic. "As the pandemic took root, football stopped completely in all but four of FIFA's 211 member associations," said the world body.

"We have revised our 2019-2022 revenue and expense budgets. The revised budget together with the 2021 annual budget (were) approved by the Finance Committee and the FIFA Council at their meetings on 22 and 25/06/2020 respectively (document available to download)," announced FIFA on 18/09/2020.
