Qatar 2022: Plans for second stadium unveiled; to be completed in Al-Khor in 2018

The Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy (the Qatari organising committee of the 2022 World Cup) unveiled plans for Al Bayt stadium (capacity 60,000), to be located in the city of Al-Khor, on 21/06/2014. This is the second stadium to be presented, following Al-Wakrah (capacity 45,120), for which work began on 20/05/2014.

The Al Bayt stadium was designed by Dar Al-Handasah, a Lebanese firm, and Projacs from Kuwait. Located about 55 km north of Doha, this stadium should be completed in 2018. The modular stadium will welcome, among others, a semifinal for the 2022 World Cup. The Al Bayt stadium will be surrounded by shops, restaurants and recreation areas.
