Real Madrid CF: Florentino Pérez begins the presidential electoral process

"Following on from today's board meeting and in accordance with article 38, section b of the Real Madrid CF (LaLiga Santander) social statutes, the president (Florentino Pérez) has requested that the electoral board issue the call for elections for the president and board of directors," announced the club on 01/04/2021. Florentino Pérez's four-year term expires in June 2021.

The Spanish businessman, CEO of the ACS Group (Civil engineering company), has been president of Real Madrid since June 2009. He also held the same position from 2000 to 2006. However, the club's socios, who were called upon to vote for the president, have not voted since 2006 and the victory of Ramon Calderon. Following his resignation in January 2009, Florentino Pérez was the only candidate, as he was in 2013 and again in 2017.
