NBA: investment firm Arctos Sports Partners to acquire 5% stake in the Golden State Warriors ($275m)

The American investment firm Arctos Sports Partners is to acquire a 5% stake in the NBA franchise Golden State Warriors, according to several US media reports on 01/04/2021. Arctos Sports Partners' offer is believed to be $275m (€232m), which would value the franchise at €5.5bn (€4.64bn).

If the deal goes through, Arctos Sports Partners would become the first private equity firm to acquire a stake in an NBA franchise, as the league's bylaws prohibit any private group from bidding for minority stakes in franchises until 2020. The NBA decided to relax the rules on franchise ownership in response to complaints from some minority franchise shareholders who were willing to sell their shares but had difficulty finding buyers under the previous rules.

The offer by Arctos Sports Partners is said to be for minority shareholders of the Golden State Warriors. American businessmen Peter Guber and Joe Lacob are the owners of the California franchise, which was bought for $450m in 2010.
