Italy: DAZN reaches an agreement with Cairo Communication to distribute channels on DTT

The OTT platform DAZN has reached an agreement with the Italian media and publishing company Cairo Communication (which owns, among others, the Italian free-to-air DTT channel La7) to use digital terrestrial in areas with a poor internet network in Italy, for a fee of €3m per season, according to the Italian business daily MF-Milano Finanza on 07/04/2021.

The agreement will allow the use of the band owned by Cairo Communication for the creation of two digital channels that will serve as a "backup" to DAZN's streaming offer, reported the Italian newspaper.

The Lega Serie A awarded the 2021-2024 broadcasting rights for the Serie A TIM in Italy (7 out of 10 matches on an exclusive basis, and the other 3 on a non-exclusive basis) to DAZN, for €840m per season, on 26/03/2021. Cairo Communication also owns Torino FC (Serie A TIM).
