Derby County FC: club to be sold to Erik Alonso (ESP) after failed sale to Bin Zayed (UAE)

"Derby County Football Club (Sky Bet Championship) wishes to confirm that a definitive agreement to purchase the club has been reached with No Limits Sports Limited. The transaction, which is still subject to the EFL's Owners and Directors Test approval, is expected to close in the near future," announced the English club on 07/04/2021. No Limits Sports Limited is a UK registered player representation agency owned by Spanish businessman Erik Alonso.

It was agreed in November 2020 that Derby County FC would be taken over by Bin Zayed International LLC (via Derventio Holdings UK Limited), owned by Sheikh Khaled bin Zayed Al Nehayan, a member of the Abu Dhabi Emir's family. An agreement in principle between the seller, English businessman Melvyn Morris, and the Emirati company was announced by the club on 06/11/2020. However, the transaction was ultimately not approved by the EFL.

If Erik Alonso's takeover of Derby County FC goes ahead, the club would become the 15^th Championship club (out of 24) to be under foreign ownership (see below).
