The official FIFA (Federation Internationale de Football Association) app for the 2014 World Cup is the most-downloaded mobile sports app in history, with 22m downloads since its launch on 27/11/2013, FIFA announced on 24/06/2014.

18m fans downloaded the app from 01 to 23/06/2014. 2.5bn pages were viewed by its users, who spent an average of 54 minutes in the app. The app is available for free on iOS and Android in five languages (English, French, German, Portuguese and Spanish) and offers live commentaries on matches, a news feed and a social network, the Global Stadium.

The FIFA app leads downloads in free apps in more than 100 countries, including France.

"The official World Cup app has proved to be the most engaging personal technology of the tournament. We are well on our way to pass our 2010 World Cup audience record of 150m people consuming FIFA content," said Matt Stone, head of digital media at FIFA, on 24/06/2014.

  • Among the 100 most downloaded free apps in the Apple Store in France as of 25/06/2014, seven are in the sports category:
