Twitch: Football ever more present on the streaming platform originally dedicated to gaming

The Basque derby Real Sociedad de Futbol - Athletic Club Bilbao (Matchday 29, 07/04/2021), was the first LaLiga Santander match to be broadcast on the Amercian streaming platform Twitch. In addition to the free DTT channel Gol (Mediapro Group), the match was broadcast on the official Twitch channels of LaLiga (38,000 views), Gol (70,000 views) and esports commentator Ibai Llanos (ESP) whose views were not recorded. The platform had previously co-broadcast, in the UK, the four end-of-season ("Restart") matches of the 2019-20 Premier League (behind closed doors) for which the rights were held by its parent company Amazon.

Founded in 2011, Twitch was acquired by Amazon for $970m (approximately €783.2m) in August 2014. Initially dedicated to gaming and esports, the streaming platform launched a content category dedicated to traditional sports in July 2020 in order to diversify its audience.
