Qatar 2022: Supersport acquires pay-TV rights (English language) for sub-Saharan Africa

Supersport International has acquired the English-language pay-TV broadcasting rights to the 2022 World Cup for sub-Saharan Africa (including South Africa), announced the South African pay-TV group on 09/04/2021.

Supersport will broadcast all 64 matches of the competition played in Qatar from 21/11 to 18/12/2022.

SuperSport, Kwesé (a subsidiary of the South African broadcasting group Econet Media) and StarTimes (a Chinese group with a presence in sub-Saharan Africa) shared the non-exclusive English-language pay-TV rights for the 2018 World Cup throughout sub-Saharan Africa. These rights will now be held exclusively by SuperSport. Canal+ held the French language rights.

  • Supersport extended its broadcasting rights in sub-Saharan Africa to the European Cups (2021-2024) and the Premier League Top English professional football division. 20 clubs. (2022-2025) in November 2020.
