esports: $1bn in funding raised for Epic Games, publisher of Fortnite (video game) valued at $28.7bn

Epic Games, an American video game publisher and notably of the "free to play" game Fortnite, has announced that it has raised $1bn (€835m) in funding on 13/04/2021. Following the funding, Epic Games is valued at $28.7bn (€23.9bn), while Tim Sweeney remains CEO and majority shareholder of the company.

"This round (of funding) includes an additional $200m strategic investment from Sony Group Corporation" as well as equity investments from firms such as Appaloosa, Baillie Gifford, Fidelity Management & Research Company LLC, GIC, Park West, KKR and Luxor Capital.

Epic Games had previously raised nearly $1.25bn (€1.1bn as of 27/10/2018), on 26/10/2018. Following this funding, in which KKR was also involved, Epic Games was valued at nearly $15bn (€13.1bn). The US publisher was valued at $8.5bn (€7.25bn) by Bloomberg, a US group specialised in services for professionals in financial markets, on 24/07/2018.
