Italy: 7 clubs including Juventus and Inter call for P. Dal Pino (Lega Serie A president) to resign

Seven major Serie A clubs (Atalanta BC, ACF Fiorentina, FC Inter Milan, Juventus FC, SS Lazio, SSC Napoli and Hellas Verona FC) are calling for the resignation of Paolo Dal Pino, president of the Lega Serie A, and are even considering a complaint for mismanagement, according to Italian media on 15/04/2021.

The source of the dispute is said to be a number of differences, including a financial disagreement over the plan to sell 10% of a new company in charge of TV rights to a consortium of private investors made up of three firms: CVC Capital Partners from Luxembourg, Advent International from the United States and FSI (Fondo Strategico Italiano) from Italy.

The Lega Serie A general assembly had unanimously approved the consortium's offer of €1.7bn on 19/11/2020. However, no agreement has since been finalised.

Another bone of contention concerns TV rights and in particular the delay in awarding the broadcasting rights in Italy to the Serie A TIM (7 matches out of 10 exclusively, and the other 3 non-exclusively) for 2021-2024. These rights were awarded to the OTT sports platform DAZN on…
