Media: Televisa (Mexico) to merge part of its assets with Univision (USA, Spanish speaking)

The Mexican telecommunications and media group Televisa, will merge its media, content and production assets with US-based Spanish-language media group Univision, "creating the premier global Spanish-language media company," announced the two groups on 13/04/2021. The agreement includes four free TV channels and 27 networks or pay-TV channels.

"Televisa-Univision will have the operating assets, financial scale and audience reach to accelerate its digital transformation and deliver a differentiated streaming proposition to the underserved global Spanish-language population," said the two groups who aim to launch an OTT platform "in early 2022."

" Televisa to contribute its content assets for a total value of $4.8bn (€4bn), comprised of $3bn (€2.5bn) in cash, $1.5bn (€1.25bn) in Univision equity and $0.3bn (€0.25bn) from other sources.
