Tennis / Wimbledon: a third main court (8,000 spectators) with retractable roof in 2030

Wimbledon should have a third main court with a capacity of 8,000 spectators in 2030, reported the British press on 16/04/2021, based on a document from the All England Lawn Tennis Club (AELTC), organizer of the grand slam tournament.

The new court, with a retractable roof, will be built on the golf course adjacent to the tournament site, Wimbledon Park Golf Club (WPGC), acquired by AELTC for £65m (€74m) on 21/12/2018. This would be the only major structure in the extension project which also includes 39 new courts. The building permit is expected to be filed in July 2021, and work is expected to begin in January 2022.

It would then be the third largest court in Wimbledon, behind Center Court (around 15,000 spectators) and Court One (12,400 spectators), increasing the capacity of the tournament from 42,000 people per day to around 50,000.
