Super League: 12 European football clubs dream of it, basketball has already done it

15 founding clubs +5 guest clubs each season according to their results from the previous season, two groups of 10 (and therefore 18 paired home-away games), then quarter-finals, semi-finals and final, this is the basic format of the Super League including 12 big clubs (Arsenal FC, Chelsea FC, Liverpool FC, Manchester City FC, Manchester United FC, and Tottenham Hotspur FC; Club Atlético de Madrid, FC Barcelona, and Real Madrid CF; AC Milan, FC Inter Milan, and Juventus FC ) announced by the potential founders on 18/04/2021.

This new competition "which will start as soon as possible" according to its founders, would of course compete head-on with the Champions League organized by UEFA. A situation which is not unlike that of European basketball, which since 2015-16 has lived to the rhythm of four European competitions offered by two separate organizers, FIBA Europe and Euroleague Basketball (which was grown out of the previous ULEB).
