Super League: "Gurus intoxicated with selfishness and a lack of solidarity" (Javier Tebas, LaLiga)

"Finally the 'gurus' of the Super League PowerPoint are exiting the darkness of the bar at 5am, intoxicated with selfishness and a lack of solidarity. UEFA, European Leagues (EL), and LaLiga have prepared and are going answer them," said Javier Tebas, president of the Spanish Professional League and member of the management board of European Leagues, via Twitter, on 18/04/2021.

This reaction follows the announcement, on the same day, of the creation by 12 of the biggest European clubs - including three from Spain (Club Atlético de Madrid, FC Barcelona, and Real Madrid CF) - of a new "mid-week competition", the Super League, directly governed by its founding clubs.

"These underground projects only seem good when you consider them at 5am after a night spent at the bar," Javier Tebas had already said in October 2020 about the rumours circulating at the time about the possible creation of a closed European leagues..
