European Super League: the six English clubs withdraw from the project

Arsenal FC, Chelsea FC, Liverpool FC, Manchester City FC, Manchester United FC, and Tottenham Hotspur FC, the six English clubs among the 12 big European clubs which had launched a European Super League project to be "governed by its founding clubs" on 18/04/2021, announced their withdrawal from the project on 20/04/2021.

"Manchester United will not be participating in the European Super League. We have listened carefully to the reaction from our fans, the UK government and other key stakeholders. We remain committed to working with others across the football community to come up with sustainable solutions to the long-term challenges facing the game," the club said for example on 20/04/2021.

"As a result of listening to you (the fans) and the wider football community over recent days we are withdrawing from the proposed Super League. We made a mistake, and we apologise for it," Arsenal wrote in an open letter to its supporters (full text below).
