Super League: World League Forum calls for "better representation of leagues in football governance"

"The World Leagues Forum not only rejects the concept of the Super League, but also requests better representation of the leagues in football governance," announced the body responsible for the representation of professional association football leagues, based in Zurich (SUI), on 23/04/2021.

The European Super League project was unveiled by 12 major English (6), Spanish (3) and Italian (3) clubs on 18/04/2021 with the aim of organising "as soon as possible" a European competition "governed by its founding clubs":
• 6 English clubs: Arsenal FC, Chelsea FC, Liverpool FC, Manchester City FC, Manchester United FC and Tottenham Hotspur FC.
• 3 Spanish clubs: Club Atlético de Madrid, FC Barcelona and Real Madrid CF.
• 3 Italian clubs: AC Milan, FC Inter Milan and Juventus FC.

Faced with very negative reactions from fans, bodies, the football world and politicians, the 6 English clubs announced their withdrawal on 20/04/2021, and were followed the next day by 4 other founding clubs (Atlético, Inter, AC Milan and Juventus).
