FC Bordeaux: François Pinault (Rennes) calls on grand cru wine owners to prepare a takeover bid

"I call on my colleagues who own Bordeaux grands crus (the highest wine classification within the Appellation d'origine contrôlée, AOC) to meet in order to prepare a plan to take over FC Girondins de Bordeaux," said François Pinault, owner of Stade Rennais FC (Ligue 1 Uber Eats), to the French sports daily L'Équipe on 26/04/2021.

"Girondins de Bordeaux have been hit hard by these issues (by the Covid-19 pandemic and the Mediapro fiasco in France), and now majority shareholders King Street, having invested €46m in the club since taking over in 2018, have made it clear that they no longer wish to support the club and cover its present and future financial obligations. This turn of events has obliged the President to protect the club's future by entrusting its administration to the Commercial Court of Bordeaux. An administrator has already been appointed to help the Girondins de Bordeaux identify a sustainable solution for the future," announced the Bordeaux club on 22/04/2021.
