Germany: crisis at the DFB where president Fritz Keller compares 1^st vice-president to a Nazi judge

"With my remark during the board meeting last Friday (23/04/2021) towards my first vice-president Rainer Koch I committed a grave mistake," said Fritz Keller, president of the German Football Association (DFB), in a statement on 27/04/2021.

Fritz Keller is said to have compared Rainer Koch (who works as a judge in Munich) to the Nazi judge Roland Freisler (who handed down some 2,600 death sentences between 1942 and 1945) at the meeting, according to concordant reports in the German media "Bild" and "Der Spiegel".

"I assumed that the apology I made to him in writing and on the telephone would be accepted immediately. This assumption was wrong, based on his written answer to me yesterday (26/04/2021)," said Keller. Rainer Koch is said to have simply "taken note" of the apology and requested a meeting with the DFB president.

"At times of social rifts we should as footballers, after my foul, offer to shake hands and together provide a sign of reconciliation. I am happy that Rainer Koch is ready for joint discussions," said Fritz Keller on 27/04/2021.
