TV rights: Premier League to extend UK broadcasting contracts (press)

The Premier League is set to extend its UK broadcasting contracts with its current partners (the pay-TV operators Sky and BT Sport, e-commerce group Amazon and public broadcasting group BBC) over the 2019-2022 cycle for two or three seasons, until 2023-24 or 2024-25, on similar terms, according to the British press on 28/04/2021.

These renewals must first be approved by the UK government due to competition law. Given the economic impact of Covid-19 on the football industry, the government is expected to give its approval, again according to the British press.

The Premier League domestic broadcasting rights over the 2019-2022 cycle had been awarded for a total of around £5bn (€5.66bn) or £1.67bn per season (€1.86bn) with the following details by operator (amount for the three seasons):
• Sky: £3.579bn (€4.05bn)
• BT Sport: £975m (€1.1bn)
• Amazon (unofficial amount): £230m (€260m)
• BBC (rights for highlights): £211.5m (€240m)
