Liga: Real Madrid set 30/06/2014 deadline for offers on 2014-15 TV rights

Real Madrid (Liga) are selling broadcasting rights for La Liga and Copa del Rey of the 2014-15 season to the highest bidder in order to "maximise revenue from rights and defend the interests of the club." Interested broadcasters have until 30/06/2014 to make offers, the club announced on 23/06/2014.

This announcement follows a decision by Spain's CNMC (National Markets and Competition Commission) to punish Real Madrid with a fine of €3.9m for non-compliance with its rules on the sale of TV rights, on 28/11/2013. The club has appealed, but its appeal is still pending.

The Madrid club signed a contract on 30/11/2010 for its TV rights for a period of four years (2011-12 to 2014-15) with the Spanish broadcaster Mediapro, whereas CNMC's rules prohibit contracts of greater than three years. Aside from the €3.9m fine for Real Madrid, Mediapro was fined €6.57m when the case was brought before the courts by the CNMC in May 2012.
