"We have been discussing legislation with Government that would allow us to prevent any similar threat in the future so that we can protect the English football pyramid," said The FA on 03/05/2021 regarding the European Super League project that was presented by 12 major European clubs, including six from the English league (Arsenal FC, Chelsea FC, Liverpool FC, Manchester City FC, Manchester United FC and Tottenham Hotspur FC) on 18/04/2021.

These six Premier League clubs subsequently withdrew two days later, on 20/04/2021. "Clearly what happened was unacceptable and could have caused great harm to clubs at every level of English football," said The Football Association.

"The fans have played a vital and impactful role in helping to stop the European Super League from happening, and we understand their frustrations.
