Brazil 2014: New records for TV ratings in many markets, according to European broadcasters

"The group matches have set new TV records in a number of markets, from Belgium to the US. Sales of television advertising and subscriptions have also benefitted" according to a study by European TV and radio broadcasters (see the list below), including the ACT (Association of Commercial Television in Europe) and the EGTA (Association of Television and Radio Sales Houses), published on 27/06/2014.

The group phase of the World Cup in Brazil (from 12/06 to 13/07/2014) took place between 12 and 26/06/2014. 48 games were played during that time. The document indicates that 12.2m tweets were exchanged in the world during the opening fixture, Brazil - Croatia (3-1), on 12/06/2014. "For the first time, there is also evidence of 'second screen' applications growing in popularity (...) and several thousand viewers are watching the games on broadcasters’ streaming services", stated the study.
