"Men's professional footballers are facing ever more congested schedules during the Covid-19 pandemic. The report reveals that during the rearranged 'emergency' period, between 01/05/2020 and 31/05/2021, players who compete mostly in domestic competitions saw their average number of appearances with less than five days of recovery rise to 42%, a 10.7% increase compared to before the pandemic," said FIFPro on the occasion of the publication of its "Player Workload & Recovery During the Emergency Calendar" report (see link below), on 11/05/2021.

Conducted in partnership with KPMG Football Benchmark (the international network of audit and consultancy firms' digital business intelligence platform dedicated to football), the report takes into account club and national team matches played by 265 football players from 43 national leagues in six confederations. "Ever-tighter schedules between competitions are leaving players under pressure. 23% of players had less than two weeks of interval between seasons.
